[Article] THE BOSS (대국남아) IS QUITE POTENTIALLY, THE MOST TRADITIONALLY TALENTED YOUNG, MALE GROUP IN THE MARKET.

When I say “traditionally talented,” I’m talking about their singing and dancing. They’re an idol group, yes, but what they’ve got is talent. They even have that X-factor. It’s just a matter of good marketing, wise budgeting, and receiving chances and opportunities.
Now I’m going to validate their talents and hopefully, individuals who don’t know this group might realize their potential and become fans as well while learning a bit of their history.
Lee SuHoon is the leader of DaeGukNamAh (대국남아). He’s the eldest as well and one of the vocalists. What’s different about DaeGukNamAh is the fact that they don’t have only just one or two vocalists. They have 4 very solid vocalists out of their 5 members and the 5th actually sings as well (just not up to par as the other 4).
The following is a song featuring Suhoon. The rapper is Sool J. The amazing vocals you hear in the chorus is Lee SuHoon. (Additionally, he’s the young man in the MV as well.)

Here’s another video. The left is InJoon, another amazing vocalists who likes to beatbox as well. The middle is Lee Suhoon (stage name Mika), and the right is HyunMin who is also a vocalist in DaeGukNamAh

Awesome, right? Now I’ll pull in our next member. HyunMin! He’s perhaps the most mature-looking in the group (though that’s completely my opinion). He’s the husky voice in DaeGukNamAh and his voice is very easy to point out in DaeGukNamAh. In fact, it’s pretty easy to distinguish each member’s voice from one another. Here’s a video of HyunMin’s voice during XING OPERA days with a variety of ballad-esque songs. You can hear his voice first and SuHoon is in this video as well.

Their voices are extremely mature! You don’t see these kinds of voices on guys this young!
I’ll pull in our next vocalist who is InJoon! InJoon’s grown up a lot since I remember back in ‘08. Not only that but his vocals are still awesome. He’s a bit overshadowed nowadays, especially with their promotions in Japan but there’s no lie, his voice is still amazing. Here’s a video from a while back. InJoon is the first one singing. At about 0:30, you can hear him sing with very nice, solid vocals.

Additionally, InJoon’s very comfortable in front of the camera. I think he’s quite well-spoken when it comes to screen time. This is a video from quite a while back too in ‘09. It’s not exactly perfect but I think he has a lot of potential for MCing. :D
Now I haven’t talked about two other members as much as I have the three above. I think SuHoon, InJoon, and HyunMin make a very good trio with very distinctive voices that would be perfect in a well-composed ballad. Their voices remind me a bit of Monday Kiz (before the motorcycle accident). Granted, there were only 2 people in Monday Kiz at the time but the three of them have a contrast in voices similar to Monday Kiz. Anyhoo, I am digressing. Next is Karam, his real name is HyunCheol.
HyunCheol is relatively popular. Many people think he looks like JaeJoong from DBSK. I have to agree. I even thought he did during XING OPERA days too. Anyhoo, his singing is quite solid and appealing to listen to as well! I think it’s best exemplified during XING OPERA days with “Memorize.” HyunCheol’s part is at 0:51.

Additionally, this video shows the amazing vocal skills of our other members too! On a personal viewpoint, I think HyunCheol’s vocals have improved and changed a lot since XING days. I remember when they first debuted as DaeGukNamAh and I could tell that HyunCheol sang just a little differently than he used to. It’s more confident, in my viewpoint. Alongside with that confidence, HyunCheol’s amazingly good in front of the camera.
This is during Japanese promotions but you’ll notice how confidence he is even with Japanese. As far as I can recall, HyunCheol’s never had prior learning to Japanese and neither have the other members as well. They learned Japanese while they were there for that time. Correction: Please look at this post: DIJITAL LOVE’S COMMENT. All of them are so lax on the screen…the Japanese screen.

I honestly don’t think any group has blended in so well so quickly in Japan as The Boss has. Other groups rarely take the time to learn the language. I recall one group still speaking in Korean even though they’d been in Japan for a few months already promoting. The Boss/DaeGukNamAh have really worked their hardest in Japan and their skills are amazing. Even their earlier videos in their dorms at Japan are awesome because…they talk to each other in Japanese on the screen and sound GOOD at it. They don’t talk to each other in Korean even though they are Korean. I give them a plethora of kudos for being able to learn the language so well.
So our last member is certainly not the least. He’s the youngest though and is growing up to be a NAMJA! Jay, also known as JiHwan, best talents lie in rapping. If any of you were on the net in the olden days, this video was relatively viral. The kid dancing happens to be Jay himself.

Additionally, Jay’s graced the silverscreens a couple times already. Though the movies weren’t relatively big hits, it’s rare for young idols to appear in movies in the first place.
There’s so much more to this group. Because they haven’t received much fame in Korea, they still uphold their rookie mindset and I hope they continue to do so even if they do make it big. DaeGukNamAh has so much promise not just talent-wise but through personality too. Wishing them the best of luck! I’ll be rooting for them like I have been since late-2008. :)
